PCOS or notFrom: Jenny (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 12 Jan 2002 04:22:43 -0600 (CST)
Hi. I've read a number of posts here and have many of the symptoms ie acne, hairloss, fatigue, depression etc but nothing is reflected in any of my blood/glucose tests or pelvic ultrasound apart from a slightly raised androistedoine (spelling?) level. My periods are regular like clockwork and I appear to be ovulating. Progesterone is slightly low but all else is fine. Testosterone is well within limits and DHEA-S is on the low side. Can you have PCOS in light of the above. My main concern is I've lost 50% of my hair in less than five months and wanted to know if anyone else has had this rapid hairloss. My endocrinologist believes it to be a symptom of low progesterone and adrenal exhaustion due to a dreadful 2 years of stress. I've been to numerous dermatologists who all disagree - ie hairloss due to stress, antibiotics (hair started to fallout 3 months after taking tetracycline for acne), androgentic alopeica, male pattern balding, diffuse hair loss, female pattern balding (go figure - how many patterns can a girl have??)and on it goes. One specialist wants me to go with progesterone cream and the other aldactone. Any thoughts or advice??
