Try http://www.ortho-mcneil.com/products/pi/pdfs/cycltri.pdf

I think you said you were on ortho-cyclen so this is the link to the information for that pill. It is a pdf file so you will need to have Adobe in order to read it. Adobe is free but just in case you do not have it, I will transcribe some of it for you.

>From page 2, just below Table III:

"Oral contraceptives may compound the effects of well-known risk factors, such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemias, age and obesity, In particluar, some progestogens are known to decrease HDL cholosterol and cause glucose intolerance, while estrogens may create a state of hyperinsulinism."

(Do we with PCOS need any of that!?! We are already at risk for increased cholesterol and triglycerides. The HDL is the "good" cholesterol. We are already genetically prone to being glucose intolerant and have high insulin.)

>From Page 2, right column:

"8. CARBOHYDRATE AND LIPID METABOLIC EFFECTS

Oral contraceptives have been shown to cause a decrease in glucose tolerance in a significant percentages of users. This effect has been shown to be directly related to estrogen dose. Progestogens increase insulin secretion and create insulin resistance, ..."

It then goes on to say that glucose tolerance was noted but was not significant. These tests do not really mean any thing since so many of us have normal glucose levels but abnormal insulin levels. Insulin levels do not seem to have been tested. With a condition like PCOS, we already have a predisposition to having these problems, the pill may aggravate those problems that exist.

Will this do?
