Re: hormone testing, IR, bcp, vaniqa for saleFrom: Belle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 11 Jan 2002 14:08:36 -0600 (CST)
Our bodies are unable to use the glucose because the cells in our bodies do not accept insulin the way that it should. Insulin is the "key" that helps glucose into the cells. You can lose weight by low-carbing. This is because you body is able to use more of the fuel it is given (proteins instead of carbohydrates) and because it does not have to work as hard to break it down into useable energy. The Glucophage simply assists your insulin into your cells. If you do not take Glucophage, your body still has a problem with the metabolism of glucose. With a low carb diet, you have less of a problem but you still have the original problem. The BCP is hormones. If you have your hormone levels tested while on the pill, the hormones from the pill will be what is tested. You should wait 90 days ideally. Of course, this is not always convenient but that is best. The estrogen in the pill are what affect the LH and FSH. A sustained level of estrogen inhibits the secretion of LH and FSH levels. Diagnostic Tests. Springhouse Corporation, Springhouse, Pennsylvania. P. 205. indicates specifically that oral contraceptives can interfere with test results. I am not sure that this is the kind of source that you want. I do not think that any one with any medical knowledge will disagree with the idea that the BCP would alter the hormone levels in a woman. You could talk to your doctor, nurse or lab about this if you are concerned. The BCP can make things worse if you have PCOS because all oral BCPs have the side effect of reducing glucose metabolism. It essentially worsens your insulin resistance. That is why the side effects will list weight gain, hirsutism (unwanted hair growth), hair loss, etc. as side effects. The tri-phasics are not as likely to inhibit cysts from forming because of the varying hormone levels. You can check your insert or you can look up your pill on the web and you should be able to find the insert information online. If you have difficulties with this, just let me know and I will see if I can find it for you.
