You can get your hormones tested at any time. I got them tested before going off the pill. My FSH was <0.7 and my LH was <0.6, and so my DR thought I was pregnant. But I wasn't of course. I stopped the pill afterwards and got more tests specific for thyroid levels as I am hyperthyroid (it was these tests that told us this). My TSH was 0.16 before the bcp stop and 0.04 after the stop. I fully completely believe that my symptoms worsened horrendously after stopping the pill, although some things (like sex drive) improved. I also have apparently thicker hair these days (still not like normal but better than while taking bcp).

Well for one thing it masks the symptoms so, it's like taking pain killers for appendicitis... the pain will be manageable but your appendix is still going to burst. The triphasic pills vary the hormones to a point where follicles still form and create cysts in many women. The proper pill can possibly shrink cysts and stop others from forming (while on the pill).

I have heard some accounts of bcp causing worse weight gain, acne, etc., I think it's variable and depends based on what pill, etc.
