Re: i'm lostFrom: Belle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 10 Jan 2002 17:00:28 -0600 (CST)
There seem to have been lots of post from women with no insurance lately. Unfortunately, the testing is expensive and the doctors are specialists. Everything cost money. One of the easiest thing that you can do until you get some coverage is to low carb. Cut out the white bread, white rice and potatoes. Try whole wheat (in moderation), cauliflower, wild rice etc. Choose foods that are low in natural sugars and high in fibre. Boxed cereals are good as long as the have no more than 3 g fat and no less than 5 g fibre. You can purchase a book with the carbohydrate counts of foods for about $5 - $10 at most bookstores. Women here will tell you that I am against sugar substitites but Splenda seems to be the rare exception. It is made from sugar, you can cook with it, it taste like sugar, and it does not cause an increase in insulin like other products on the market. It may be a great relief to us. You could try Chromium GTF suppliments to help you metabolize sugar that you do eat. You could try the public health clinics to see if they are able to treat you for PCOS - not the pill - BAD for the treatment of PCOS. Good for preventing pregnancy. Also, one lady here said the other day that she did not have insurance but she saved up for a visit to the doctor because her health was important to her. I know this takes great sacrifice and determination, but it may be of help to you. This time with your husband is precious. Take this time to spend with your husband, after children come, you will have NO privacy what-so-ever! :-)
