I agree that there are downsides, like you mentioned. People doing literature searches will lose a lot of info looking only at a new name. They would have to know about the old names. Docs barely know about PCOS. Changing the name could confuse them further and there may be a tendancy to discount it because of a "fickle" name. But, these things tend to evolve on their own. The medical community will either accept or reject it. Any change takes a long time. And, if someone is doing serious research, they will encounter PCOS in the bibliography or as a reference like "HHMD (formerly PCOS), ..." then be able to search for PCOS lit. Just like now people can search for Stein-Levanthal info. Renee
