Re: Where to get started with proper diagnosis. From: Belle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 9 Jan 2002 15:38:52 -0600 (CST)
I have had good luck with a GYN, on the other hand, I have had some real losers as well. I have also seen an endocrinologist and a reproductive endocrinologist (RE). Some REs will only see women who are trying to conceive (ttc), others will see other women who are trying to get healthy. If insurance is not a problem, I would try to go to someone who was knowledgable, it would not matter what their title, however, an endocrinologist or RE will probably know more about the insulin problems and will be more likely to pick up on the most dangerous part of our problem. You may want to ask on here about doctors in your area to see if someone has any good or bad experences. You should also check on http://www.pcosupport.org to see if you can find a professional who is listed. I cannot remember where that is exactly on the site, but I know that there is a listing of doctors. Just because they are on the list doesn't mean that they have a good bedside manner but they should be familiar with PCOS and the problems associated with it.
