Medical visit went bad, living in the Dark Ages

hi, I live in canada. I visited a nurse at the hospital today in reguards to a study they are doing for pre-diabetic women. she told me that i would have a 50/50 chance of getting some avandia if i took part in the study. i said no, that after all these years of thinking i was going crazy from all the symptoms that i wanted treatment. she proceeded to tell me that although she knew nothing of pcos, she did know that it was standard practice in canada not to treat patients untill they are full blown diabetics; that she had never ever heard of anyone taking met unless they scored whatever on the gloucose (?) test. She said that the doctor would monitor me until i had full blown diabetes. I told her that for the past 8 years i have been dying a slow death, watching my mental state, my figure, my hair, my skin, everything go down the tubes, and she once again assured me i wouldnt get any treatment. she looked at my chart and said most levels were normal. my new family doctor said those same results showed a typical pcos cluster (this was about 2 months ago). MY obgyn tested me for pcos because i have been complaining of all the sypmtoms (i know they cant actually test for pcos, but whatever tests they do) and she finially agrees with me that i have it. ( i dont see her for another 2 weeks) My old family doctor (moved away) told me i better "smarten up" or I would be diabetic very soon . So, please tell me there is treatment. it seems alot of people are being treated, right? What do i need to go into my obgyn with that can help her to help me? In reading all the posts i was thinking met for the insulin intolerance, spiro for the hair loss and something for the vag. infection (have to look up the name). any support and advise would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
