Re: Where to get started with proper diagnosis. From: Sonnet (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 8 Jan 2002 17:08:56 -0600 (CST)
It really depends on the doctor! I have had WONDERFUL experiences with two GP's who knew a lot about PCOS and knew how to treat me! I have had both good and bad experiences with OBGYN's, it really has varied. And, while I have never found an endo with a real clue, I know lots of women here have enjoyed theirs. So it just depends on the person, how educated and up to date they are, etc! The theory goes that you will have the most luck with an endocrinologist, specifically with an RE. This is because PCOS is an endocrine disorder. Whether or not you get your primary diagnosis from an endo, it is a good idea to see one regularly anyway so they can keep a knowledgeable eye on your blood hormone levels etc. So, that gets my vote - but really you can start by seeing any doctor you're comfortable with. Just keep in mind that they may not know about PCOS and you might have to hit a couple before finding a good one!
