I don't think I ever had mono, but I used to get strep throat and tonsilitus constantly, it culminated at age 17 when I had to be on amoxicillan for an entire year. We tried to get my tonsils removed but our insurance wouldn't pay for it because I didn't have the recurrent ear infections to go along with it so they didn't consider it life threatening.

I haven't had it since then, but I always have a sore throat, my tonsils are 1/2 again the size of anyone else's, and occasionally I pull out chunks of green crap and once or twice I'll catch them bleeding. And NOW I have the ear infections (not bacterial in origin... just constant ear problems). Roughly a year ago my entire throat swelled up and hurt so badly that I couldn't talk, it was like sandpaper to swallow water... the roof of my mouth actually hurt so bad to touch that I didn't want to open my mouth at all. I went to the Dr. and he told me basically there was nothing he could do, it must have been a virus, and here take this VICADIN! I was sick with that for almost two weeks, and for months afterwards I was picking out guck from my tonsils.
