Metformin?From: Louise (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 4 Jan 2002 09:15:41 -0600 (CST)
Hi, I have been told that I am "borderline" PCOS and that it is more likely to be my weight (am 210 pound and 5 foot 8) that causes my amenorrhoea(never had a period except for one scarily large bleed approx 18 months ago -stuck pig) and that I wouldn't have problem if I lost weight etc.... which I am trying to do, and have so far lost 14 pounds. I only have one ovary due to a XXL cyst last year which had to be removed and now have been informed that my left ovary has PCOS characteristics (though my gynae said it didn't last year before my other ovary was removed) Have normal bloodworks, though have not had a glucose intolerance test. Am a little worried about the thickness of my uterus as no periods! and my grandma had cancer of the lining. SO, what I really wanted to know is whether I should take some of my Dad's metformin (he is type 2 diabetic) and see if it helps?? (Doctor has told me she wont put me on it as is still experimental -I Know, I know!!!!) How many other people here have had success/info about met? I have come to the conclusion that my gynae is completely useless and have got to start looking after myself-you guys are my only hope!! Thanx for listening Louise
