Hi there atgain>,

I read thru all your symptoms and alot seem the same as mine are.

I find that some days,I can drink and drink, although I am not thirsty, but I chuglug water for the same reason as you do...the dry mouth and eyes and lips...basically all the mucuous membranes. My skin bounces back like an elastic band as well,,but the pitting that you describe to me sounds somewhat normal.True pitting edema is different from what you describe as smiley's:),I think that on everyone,on their extremeties, when you poke even gently, you will be able to leave a mark,,but what I am referring to is actual "Pitting",,that is a DEFINATE indentation of where you poked your finger. It leaves a darned dent.I can do this and I look like I have crater ankles.....this is also a sign that the heart is overworked and you are retaining water....can be serious,,,,usually not,but in any case, please ask your doctor about this.I didn't even have a clue that I had this, till I went for a holter monitor and the tec asked me if I had taken my diuretic that day.I said"what"?She then showed me that I was retaining water by the simple test that I spoke of.That is when I was mighty concerned...that is also when My heart was failing so to speak.

I sympathize with you so much,,it is as if we have to gulp down tremendous amounts of water to be able to speak. This is a major downfall for me.

But,in my case,I also have an undifferentiated diagnosis of lupus,so that is the srogens syndrom(spelled it wrong,I know),,it causes the dry eye and mouth syndrome.

I have a humidifier...a darned waterfall in my bedroom and still wake with my mouth sooooo dry. This is not from winter at all.I find my skin very moist though. So this does not fit the classic description of dehydration for neither of us. I shower and always end in cold water to lock the moisture in.

I realize that winter does tend to make the skin dryer, but with all the moisturizers out there, there should be something to bring some relief for you.

In the midst of my diabetes insipidus which just cleared up on it's own(strange),I was very dry and itchy like crazy.

I wish I could be of more help to you,but rest assured that you are not dehyrdrated. There is also a problem with anti-diuretic and diuretic hormone released during IR.I was told that this is part of my problem.

Now,may I ask you another question? Do you feel that you will urinate more when you are cold? When you are warm.,do you tend to dispose of less?I do.Also,do you find that your legs and possibly feet, and hands turn white, blue, then red and hurt?I was diagnosed as having Raynauds Phenomena.I assume this is not the case with you.

I will offer a little tidbit that has proven successful for me.I suck on gingerroot.I sure does help.

Ginger tea is another one that helps rid me of the dry mouth problems.

I am so tired, but hope this helped some. Take care of yourself and god bless! In my thoughts and prayers
