Re: Advice, please? I'm new to this!From: Penhead (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 19 Dec 2001 11:25:11 -0600 (CST)
Teresa, You will want to make sure the Dr administers the appropriate tests, not just blood sugar, but insulin levels, and all the hormonal levels as well. They may not be able to do this on your first visit, b/c they normally want fasting levels. You will also want to make sure that the Dr is educated about PCOS and if not, if s/he can refer you to someone who is. How many patients have they treated with PCOS? Are the up on current treatment and research? What is their treatment philosophy on PCOS? Probably most important is for you to be educated when talking with him/her. If you don't understand, ask questions. If you still don't understand, ask some more. This is your health and you need to take responsability for it. Best of luck. I hope this is a good experience for you. Finding a good Dr makes all the difference in the world. And if this isn't the "right" one, keep looking!!
