Failed Progesterone Withdrawl,Normal FSH? - Seeing Dr. This ThursdayFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 18 Dec 2001 18:23:34 -0600 (CST)
Hello Everyone, Any help with the following would be greatly appreciated? I am seeing an RE. I was recently supposed to take Progesterone to induce a period and then begin taking clomid. I didn't have a withdrawal bleed, and was told not to take the clomid. She told me to try the progesterone withdrawl test again. I did, but no bleeding. Previous testing shows that I have normal FSH, she has ruled out POF. I am seeing her this Thursday, and would like advice on questions that I should ask. I am generally in good health ( no anorexia or anthing like that ). My doctor stated this was probably a variant of PCO. I am afraid that she is going to tell me it has something to do with stress etc.. something I can't control. My history is the following: Irregular or absent periods from 13 to 20 years of age. On BCP from age 20 to age 32. About 2 and 1/2 ago, went off pill. Did not have period for almost a year. Then went to RE to check why I have absent periods. She discovered very low estrogen, twice normal rate of androgen, normal thyroid, normal LSH and FSH, normal iron, mormal prolactin. - She had me take progesterone withdrawl. I only spotted for two days. I was concerned, but she said that was a pass. She said it was a variant of PCO. She put me back on BCP and I took them for about a year. She said I would need fertility drugs to get pregnant. In July we decided to try getting pregnet. Went off the BCP and 3 weeks later, in August, I saw the same RE. She redid androgen, LH, FSH, prolactin test. Everything was normal. She did not test estrogen. She gave me medroxyprogesterone and clomid. My husband and I ended up not begninng this first cycle of fertility drugs until November. ( Of course, I didn't have any periods during this time, but of course that was expected ). But like I said above, we didn't even get to the clomid part, because I didn't have a withdrawal bleed. Is this PCO? Is it this hypothamic anovulation ie. stress etc.. that one scares me, because it seems difficult to pin down. Sorry for the long message. Kathryn
