A message of hope for women with PCOSFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 16 Dec 2001 21:41:37 -0600 (CST)
Hello and I thank you for reading this. I just wanted to write a little something for all of those women out there who are suffering or think they are suffering from PCOS. I'm 27 years old and have been overweight since a very young girl. In my high school years I weighed over 300 lbs and about 6 months ago I weighed 430 lbs. I was diagnosed with PCOS 6 months ago but had suspicions about it after learning about it on the web. My weight ballooned, I was shaving my chin every other day, I felt awful all the time, I wanted to die. My family Dr. did a test on my insulin level and found that it was around 65, which is very high. She recommended me to a OB/GYN that treated people with PCOS. Of course I didn't want to go because I was embarrassed. But I knew I had to do something or death would be imminent. So I went and it was the day that changed my life forever. He is a sweet caring man who explained to me what PCOS was and that most important, the weight problem was not my fault. Its not that I was overeating, its that my body did too much with the carbs i was eating. So he put me on Glucophage, Progesterone, Birth control pills, and aldactone for excess hair, and the Adkins diet. Well in the past 6 months I've lost 75 lbs, there is barely any excess hair and for the first time in my life I have normal periods. I have more energy than I've had in years and I have a whole new love for life. I have a long way to go but am excited about getting there. So I want to offer encouragement to all of those who are not getting results. Talk with your Dr, because mine said you have to play with the drugs and diet to find out what works for you. Please don't give up, life will be so much brighter. God bless.
