hypertrichosis - increased vellus/light hair growthFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 15 Dec 2001 01:37:36 -0600 (CST)
Hi there. I wondered if any of you know much about hypertrichosis- I understand this term to mean increased growth of non sexual or non androgen dependent hair as distinct from hirsutism- male pattern body/facial hair. I think this is often/ usually non pigmented. Basically, I'm wondering if I'm developing it at the moment, during the last few months in addition to the hirsutism. Maybe I'm just being reallly paranoid...I can't find much out about it yet. Anyway, is this associated with androgens at all. I know this wouldn't make sense really but most of the other causes seem to be congenital or drug related.Cancer too- but that is usually local non sexual growth. I posted a long complaint about hair the other day, and did go on about this a bit. Basically, I seem to have increased light, thin hair over most of my body in the last couple of months- back, sides of the body etc. More worryingly, on the face, some of the light hairs come up really quite near the eyes which seems a little odd. I mean they are more pronounced than before. If anybody could shed any light on this at all- I would be most grateful.
