Re: Looking for suggestionsFrom: jodi (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 6 Dec 2001 10:59:24 -0600 (CST)
The ultrasound really won't help in the diagnosis. It will only tell you if you have cysts on your ovaries, which is one more sign women with PCOS might have. Some don't have cysts, some do. From a diagnostic standpoint, you have the insulin problems, the testosterone problems, the period problems... you have PCOS. What does one more symptom matter? (Think of it as getting into as college... you've been accepted. Your SATs were great, your high school grades were acceptable... who cares if they really dug your essay? You're in!) Whether or not to see an endocrinolgist depends on how your gyn is going to treat you. If she plans to use insulin sensitizers and other modern forms of treatment, stay with her. If all she'll give you is BCPs, then by all means seek out an endo. - jodi
