What if I want a hysterectomy?From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 2 Dec 2001 00:38:55 -0600 (CST)
I am 32 years old, and my husband and I decided to not have more children following our third c-section nearly 10 years ago. My tubes were tied and we are very comfortable with our decision. Our children are wonderful and our family is happy. I have recently (& finally!) been diagnosed with PCOS. We have tried the birth control pills to regulate my cycle but my blood pressure went sky high. Currently I am taking progesterone to thin the lining of my uterus. From what my doctor says, it's working because I am not having a period now on this med. My question is what is the issue with a woman of my age asking for a hysterectomy to remove the need for medicating my cycle? It seems to me, that if my husband and I are totally agreed and comfortable with the obvious changes that would take place, that it should be my choice. What are the pros and cons of this?
