Re: Anyone with semi-regular periods?From: anonymous@obgyn.netFri, 30 Nov 2001 19:26:02 +0000
I have had regular periods since I had my tubes tied. (And if that isn't irony, I don't know what is!!). But I definitely have PCO, and the diagnosis was made on the basis of a laparoscopy. I can show you pictures of my white-theca-covered ovaries with multiple cysts, although they are not the classic "string of pearls" cysts. And guess what? My ovaries (which are more than twice normal size) show up as PERFECTLY NORMAL on ultrasounds (when they can find them at all; they tend to hide). So . . . I would say find another doctor. Go to a reproductive endocronologist. Or at least go to a doctor who gives you credit for having a brain and knowing your body. You may also approach it on the basis of insulin resistance. All the symptoms you mentioned, especially the brown skin, stem directly from insulin resistance. If your ob has not done a check on your hormone levels, he needs to do that too. And like you said, just because you are menstruating does not mean you are ovulating. Please let us know what's up. Best wishes, Donna
