16, but then again didn't even see the doctor about weird periods till I was 19. >3) How old were you when you first started showing any signs of PCOS?
certainly by 16 (hirsutism) but possibly earlier, as period just would not start for ages even though in all other respects I'd been through puberty. >and last, 4) If there had been information available to you in your

definitely. I just did not know what the hell was going on and it never crossed my mind for ages that it might be fairly common. It was my fault I did not go to the doctor earlier, but then I just was too scared when I was a teenager! so if I'd known even a smidgeon about PCOS I would have been straight in there, at 15 or 16.(The only good thing about not knowing in my particular case was that I had no idea how bad it could or would get!)Yeah, maybe it is easier now for many people to get access to medical info through the internet but some basic information and just knowing you are not alone and that there is treatment out there would totally have helped. Yes, it is a lot to handle at school age but then at least you can start getting treated/feeling better about yourself as soon as possible, and you can reach as many girls/women as possible through school. As it was, I had to self diagnose and go in there and TELL my doctor I had a hormonal problem and no I could not live with it and I think she only referred me (after the 'some women are hairier than others' lecture) because I looked like I was about to burst into tears/totally lose it. Just knowing that there was a name for what I had gave me the confidence to go in there and not be fobbed off. Sorry I've rambled on. I do think what you are doing is important, and who knows, once a successful program is developed in one state/country, others might follow suit. >Thank you all so much in advance!
