Re: Dry period (Doctors or anyone els with advice)From: Belle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 29 Nov 2001 10:58:37 -0600 (CST)
I decided to ask Dr. Perloe's office about this since so many women seemed to identify with this question. http://www.ivf.com 1st any spot is considered a period. Even if it is only visible on the toilet paper. There are a couple of reasons why you may have dry, brown periods. 1) Your uterus may not be developing a full lining. 2) You may not be completely shedding your lining. Both of these problems *can* be caused by insufficient progesterone levels. Prometrium or Provera can help correct this problem. The other options are not conducive to pregnancy, BCPs and burning the lining of the endometrium. There is also the possibility that if you were low carbing that you were dehydrated. Low carb diets are lower in moisture content than other diets and people frequently become dehydrated while on them. If this is the case, you could have been too "dry" to have a sufficient lining build-up or to have a regular period.
