Next in thread: Belle: "Re: birth control patch" Reply: Belle: "Re: birth control patch" has anyone else seen the birth control patch? you can read the article at: http://www.cnn.com/2001/HEALTH/11/21/contraceptive.patch.ap/index.html i warn you, the felt for some reason the need to show what it looks like and of course they felt the need to show it on a perfectly flawless slender naked woman... as if no one could figure out on their own what a medicated patch looks like, they've only been in use for how many years now? :-P Any excuse to show a picture of a perfect naked woman... ANYWAY. what do people think? I think this is one of the most ridiculous birth control solutions yet! It's the exact same hormones that are used in BCPs, so I would imagine you'd have the exact same side effects, with the added possibility of skin irritation. The patch is supposed to offer women "more freedom" because you only have to change it once a week rather than take a pill every day. (I find it hilarious that pill manufacturers think women are too stupid to remember to take their birth control pills if they get out of the habit during the off week, so they give them dummy pills... but they don't think remembering to change a patch once a week is beyond our capabilities. I'm not saying it IS, i'm just saying the paradox is funny...) Add to potential for the same side effects that you have a brown sticker on you stomach or butt all the time... Well, I suppose it's possible that with this being a patch, hormones are released more slowly, and maybe side effects are lessened... but I don't know. It will be interesting to find out if it does lessen side effects, but right now I think it seems like a silly idea. I think that people who say women are disastified with the current birth control options are missing the point... isn't it the hormonal haywire and side effects they cause that women are unhappy with?
