1) i was 19 when i was diagnosed (am now 24). i was actually diagnosed by an excellent nurse practitioner at the health services office of my college. i'd been to a million doctors before regarding my lack of periods and everyone just told me i was "stressed out."

2) i got my period when i was 12 and started have trouble when i was 15--which is when my mother took me to see an obgyn. SO, i think i should have at least been diagnosed by the time i was 17 or so. even though i was diagnosed when i was 19, i did not receive proper medical/medicinal treatment for PCOS until i took it upon myself to see a PCOS specialist last year.

3) i had period troubles by the time i was 15 and the hair growth started then as well in addition to mild acne. all of these symptoms worsened as i got older since last year when i finally started getting the help i really needed, these symptoms have improved a bunch.

4) when you say "school," do you mean highschool or college? if it had been at my college, i definitely would have benefited because i would have been mature enough to handle the information and implement it into my life. i think health services centers at universities and colleges should DEFINITELY have pamphlets/literature about PCOS available. i mean, they have them for almost everything else, right? had i been younger, it definitely would have helped to have PCOS literature available.

hope that helps! good luck with your project! Sarah
