Kari,

I'm taking glucophage xr I recently tried regular glucophage, there was a major increase in the gi side effects so I switched back. I'm taking 1500mg 500 at breakfast and 1000 at dinner. I always take it during the meal and have only had problems at the beginning and after increases and it usually lasts only a couple of weeks and isn't that bad.

Good luck with it.
