Re: Anyone have an IUD? (long, demonstrative of the effect PCOS is having on my mental health)From: Bailey (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 11 Nov 2001 19:27:47 -0600 (CST)
I got an IUD after having an unplanned pregnancy at 20 end in a very scarey misscarrige at 4.5 months, and a second unplanned pregnancy which ended in abortion out of fear of a repeat misscarrige one year later. Oral and injection brith control was unreialable because doctors kept blaming my PCOS symptoms on my BC method. Since they were always switching my BC, I had two unplanned preganacy. I aborted #2, because the docs for #1 refused to even try and find out why I miscarried, and I feared repeating the same. Now I suspect all of it was due to PCOS. Anyway, the IUD has been great it's been in for a little less than two years. I have a traditional copper T. I met lots of resistance in getting one as well, because of the medical problems that have happened (no one has died from complications due to having an IUD in more than 26 years, but still people are very fearful of them). I literally had to lie in order to obtain one at the age of 23. I hardly know it is there, expect my periods are ocassionally a little heaver, and of course are now iregular again. But I do not have to worry about putting myself or my partner through the pain that we went through before. I highly suggest anyone intersted do the reasearch, and if you feel comfortable twist your doctor's arm until you get one.
