Re: Difference between IR and Diabetes???

No problem.

Type two diabetes is when the receptor sites on the cells wear out, and don't allow the insulin (which carries the glucose-the glucose can't get in without it) though. Those people can take the oral hyperglycemic agents (met, actos, avandia, glucovance, etc.).

Because the glucose is not getting into the cells, the cells are starving. They put out the signal that they're not getting sugar. The pancreas receives the signal and thinks that it is because there is not enough insulin out there, so it starts pumping out harder. Eventually, it might wear out, and stop producing insulin. That's when type 2 diabetics need to take insulin as well as their oral agents. They need to add insulin because they're not making enough, and they can't utilize it appropriately, so they take pills.

Does this make sense?
