Hi Caroline,

I have been on met for 1 1/2 years, so I hope this answer helps. You can still have irregular periods while on met. The hope is that they will start coming on a more regular basis as you and your doc establish your dosing.

Yes, you can have a period without ovulating...and ovulate without the period. A previous poster (sorry, didn't catch your name) mentioned ovulation detector kits, and that might be helpful.

Hair is a different story. While the met has slowed the hair falling out of my head, it took a loooong time. I was already taking it for 9 months before it slowed. Hair follicles are on their own time table, for both growing and falling out. Give it some more time, but tell your doc when you see him next. He/she may have other options for you.

Do you feel any better on the met? That is the real question to decide if it works for you. I didn't feel really good (more energy, less sleepy, cleared acne) until I was on it 4 - 5 months.

Hope this helps to answer your questions.

love and hugs, SusieQ
