Hair growth and weight gain (new to the board)From: Lauree (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 29 Oct 2001 15:45:52 -0600 (CST)
I am starting this over cause the pc froze up on me so I hope that it does not do this again. My name is Lauree and I was diagnosed with PCOS this may(2001). I most likely have had this since I was 13. But they did not know of this back then from what I was told. I have had to pluke my chin for as long as I can remember. There is light growth but enough for me to feel and notice in other areas too. Shaving the legs and pits are a every other day process let me tell ya. There are some things in the post that I have read. Shaving face ect. Please whatever you do.....DO NOT shave your face hair! It will make them more noticeable. My mother did this and now she has to do this daily! I use what is called Sally Hansen facial hair remover. It is a cream you put on and leave for 10 minutes and then wipe off. It causes some redness for a few minutes but after you put lotion on after it is fine. Test a small area first. When i was diagnosed with pcos I weighed 280. I do take Metformin now only once a day at 500mg. It started out as one dose then two a day and then three aday. Now it is only once daily. I am watching what I eat. When I first started Met I was on the Atkins diet. Did rather well lost 40 pounds in the first 3 months! But now the ob wants me to add whole grains and now my weightloss is maybe 4 pounds a month when I was loosing 10. With one week of Atkins and off a week on a week. I am currently back on it under my own supervison because i know what my body can and can not handle. I was on meridia(diet pill) and that made more more hungry then before! I did take provera to induse cycles the month of july then having two cycles that month i stopped taking them and now with just Met i have them every month since then. I have found if you watch what you eat.....very little carbs because your body does need some.......and take your met(glucophage) your cycles will come!. I guess you can say you have to be patient and that is not so easy when all of us are desprate for the right help. Take care Lauree
