Help! Not sure if metformin is helping...From: Caroline (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 29 Oct 2001 13:59:34 -0600 (CST)
Sorry about the lengthy post. I'm hoping someone who's been on metformin for a while can help me with some questions. In July I went off BCPs because my husband and I wanted to (hopefully) start a family. I've had two menstrual cycles since - one at 36 days and the second at 30 days. However, at this point I still haven't gotten my period, and it's going over 40 days and I know I'm not pregnant. (I've taken 4 at home tests and one test at the drs). I've been on metformin for PCOS for about 8 months, and am wondering if I even ovulated during these two cycles without the BCPs - can you have a period without ovulating? Also, is it typical to skip periods while on metformin? And how do you know if you need to up the metformin dosage? I've also noticed that I'm losing a lot of hair (I've noticed it while in the shower, but it so far hasn't shown up in thinning patches on my head). Does this mean the metformin isn't working? Please help. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Thanks!
