Hairiness was Re: 2 Questions...From: jodi (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 28 Oct 2001 09:11:00 -0600 (CST)
I was thinking of posting this the other day but I stopped halfway through because I thought it was stupid. But who knows... Does anyone know if how much excess hair you have actually has anything to do with how bad your PCOS is? Sonnet, you say your body hasn't become hairy yet... that implies it could become hairy... but is that really a possibility? I guess what i mean is, since not all women with PCOS have the excess hair, the excess hair is thought to also have to do with how sensitive a given person's hair follicles are to excess androgen. so you could have really bad PCOS but very insensitive (unsensitive?) follicles, so little or no excess hair. Or you could have very mild PCOS but very sensitive follicles, and tons of hair. Does that make sense? I always feel like, OK, PCOS sucks, this excess hair sucks... but if it never gets any worse, I can deal with it. I have chin hair, bad upper thigh hair, mild/moderate under bellybutton hair... but I do not have chest hair or back hair. (I have butt hair but I can't see my butt so it doesn't bother me unless I god forbid have to put on a bathing suit...)... I always wonder if the hair will spread to these unhairy areas in time, or if the follicles that are gonna get hairy have already done so by now? Re: upper leg/thigh hair, though... lots of girls I know do not have hair there. Boy, does that tick me off. There's just no justice in this world... :-) - jodi
