Prednisone is a steroid (not like athletes)and has its own problems. They are not good long term. You may want to do some research on it. We (Dr. and myself) have worked very hard to get my daughter off of prednisone (for asthma). As far as birth defects, there have been no studies done on birth defects with Glucophage. Most drs do not recommend taking Glucophage while pregnant. They do not recommend you take any drugs usually. The reason they do not recommend Glucophage is because there are no studies. The women who have taken Glucophage while pregnant have have lower instances of miscarriages and I am aware of NO birth defects in this *small* group of women.

As far as the house problems, I have had far less hair on my face and legs since taking Glucophage.
