Re: **Is it just me??**From: jodi (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 16 Oct 2001 12:34:19 -0500 (CDT)
Hi there Have you had your adrenal gland looked at, by any chance? I believe that super super high testosterone can be indicatitive of adrenal problems, for example an adrenal tumor. Precocious puberty is also thought to be caused by adrenal problems. Both insulin and adrenal components can play a role in the symptoms experienced with PCOS. It is important to find out what is causing your problems so you can treat it correclty. Adreanal problems are often treated with low dose prednisone (I think?)... insulin problems are treated with Metformin and other insulin sensitizing agents. I don't know what your doctor is talking about when he says only levels over 50 warrent Metformin... insulin levels??? Mine was 19 before met. This was at the high end of my labs normal range. Many sources of advice do say anything over 10 is too high. I would advise you to get your hands on Sam Thatcher's PCOS book... there is a new edition out soon, but the old one will be just fine... and consider getting a doc who is more willing to treat you!!! I suggest an endocrinologist. - jodi
