Dona,

Don't worry. It's really pretty safe. Just think of a big tummy tuck and breast lift. A surgeon who does it would be able to give you a better run down of the risk of various complications and the percentages for each. It is a surgery that requires going under anesthesia. But, if I ever take off this weight, I'll be there on the table having it done myself.

Remember, you can interview your doctors before you agree to any surgery. If you don't like how he treats you, or don't feel comfortable with his understanding and knowledge, go to the next guy on your list. I would ask the wound care nurses or therapists in your area for suggestions about who they like. We work with plastics a lot, both for debridement and reconstruction of wounds, and we see the ones that don't heal well.
