Aldactone vs. Spiro + hair updateFrom: Beth (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 11 Oct 2001 09:02:15 -0500 (CDT)
As some of you know, I switched from Spiro to Aldactone, just to see if there's a difference. (some say there is so thought I'd test it myself : ) ) The problem is that I'm a ditz. I started the Aldactone AND another new thing (vitamins) within a couple of weeks of each other. I should have known better but I wasn't thinking. It's been a month on Aldactone and I've not had any problems with it. I tolerated Spiro fine and Aldactone hasn't been any different. Everything seems to be ok and I haven't noticed a difference in the effectiveness. I have had an extra zit or two but nothing major and that could be from anything. I have hair regrowth! (I probably just cursed myself saying that out loud, it's probably falling out as we speak LOL) I think that it's from the vits because it's about 1/2" long and that would make sense because of when I started taking them. At first I thought it was breakage but there is 1/2" at the forehead hairline, all the way across. One day my Husband pointed out my "baby" hair, I didn't even notice it! Keeping my fingers crossed that it will continue to grow! Anyhow I think the hair is from the vitamins, because of the rate hair grows and when I started taking them. Zinc and even Iron (thanks Anne!) can have a positive effect, and the Vits are loaded with both. (One A Day Maximum) The bummer thing is that I don't tolerate them well. They are wreaking havoc on my system and I've lost an addition 5 pounds that I didn't really want to lose.(never thought I'd hear myself say that!!!) I haven't had my iron checked recently but as I mentioned before I had low iron as a teen and then high levels as a young adult and through pregnancy. Maybe that's the cause? I'm going to the Dr. soon so will have my levels checked out. If they're ok, I'm going to continue on and deal with the gastric upset. I really want to see how far this hair thing goes!
