Are they treating the insulin resistance? Treating will improve your cholesterol so will a low carb/low gylcemic diet. In the sugarbusters diet book they discuss the link between insulin and high cholesterol.

The cholesterol lowering drugs seem to me another way for drug companies to make money treating symptoms rather than causes, but maybe that's just me being cynical.
