Joyce,

I too was diagnosed with CFS - way back in the 80's when it was the "yuppie flu". I didn't have it either. I feel like it's what our doctors tell us we have so they don't have to do their job - but maybe that's just my lingering resentment.

I bet the reason that you experience what you do has to do with hormonal fluctuations. As I understand it, reactive hypoglycemia and insulin resistance gets worse in the week before your period because of the cyclical rise in testosterone, so when testosterone levels go down you feel better for a time. With PCOS your testostorone levels are elevated in proportion to your estrogen, but there is that decline that happens, so it's not that you have more energy during your period, it's that you have less the rest of the time, does that make sense?

For me I always feel horrible the week before my period, but marketedly worse the 2 days before, then my period makes me feel better too.

I'm not surprised you get a blank stare - especially if they are male doctors. Many doctors fail to consider the effect of hormones on a woman's body, and most of what they have learned was based on the study of male bodies.

Since the "CFS diagnosis" I have found one real thing wrong after another, and for each thing I have had to go through a number of specialists. I really had severe GERD, a low functioning gallbladder (no stones), ulcers; hypothyroidism; insulin resistance/PCOS.

Whether or not you have a weight problem, I suggest you pick up a new book by Elizabeth Vliet, MD. "Women, Weight and Hormones" it covers hormones and insulin resistance among other things and does it in an easy to understand way. She also suggests tests and gives the optimal levels for various things which is important because normal lab values tend to be wrong -- I experienced this with my hypothyroidism, I had to get way out of range before I got medication.

You need to link your carbs with protein/fat. Try having an apple with cheese before and after exercising. Or have it with peanut butter (natural kind with no sugar, dumpt the oil).

I hope you feel better soon.
