Yes - there is a connection between high cholesterol and PCOS there is also a connection with thyroid disease, I suspect it is better to get to the underlying cause than to take cholesterol lowering meds which are being so heavily pushed these days.

Good luck with your doctor visit, I'm seeing mine on Thursday too.
