As someone else mentioned, it could be the sugars in the dairy product that you are reacting to or it could be part of the problem.

I am lactose intolerant as well, so is my father, neither of us always had a problem with it. It usually is something that shows up later in life. It is probably more of a coincidence than a causal relationship.

I find my toleration is better when I am on or have recently finished a course of antibiotics which I find perplexing.

The lactose problem sure makes low carb/zone type diets difficult, I take lactaid to help but still try to avoid cheese, etc when I can.
