I've recently been reading about ferritin, Dr. Elizabeth Vliet says a woman should have a level of 50-90, labs report 10-100something as normal so you could be in range but not optimal. I've had to specifically request ferritin be tested mine was 23, which meant nothing to my doctor but might explain a lot of my unresolved symptoms. I also saw that IR and low ferritin have been linked by researchers. Low ferritin (but not out of range levels) can cause hair loss. Thyroid hormones also have a wide normal range, typically .5-5.5, this range is cosidered wrong by many as undiagnosed hypos were included in the sample that established the normal lab range. The American College of Clinical Endocrinologist are now saying anything above three should be considered suspect for hypothyroid disease. A good endo these days will say that TSH should between 1-2 and T4 and T3 close to mid range. I have had hair loss in the past, I don't know why it occured when it did. I quit smoking and took lots of supplements - and I don't know if they helped either. It did come back, I had patchy hairloss and overall thinning. I think at that point I was beginning to have thyroid problems and considering my horrible diet, I wouldn't be surprised if my ferritin was low then I eat 100% better now and I'm half what is considered optimal. Good luck
