Re: Thrush ( Yeast Infection in the mouth)From: Dona (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 30 Sep 2001 21:22:25 -0500 (CDT)
People who have comprimised immune systems (Such as HIV as an example) also tend to get Thrush also known as candida albicans.High levels of sugar in your body can also cause it as well as taking antibiotics. Your Dentist can give you an RX for an oral rinse that might help Called Peridex and or liquid antibiotic. You can do four simple things at home to help controll it 1.Eliminate excess sugar in diet 2.Eat garlic 3.Eat yogurt containing acidopholus 4.cut down on eating yeast containing products..such as bread,or alcohol (beer&wine) I am IR but I have never had any type of yeast infections as my sugar is not high.I also have a very strong immune system.I have seen 2 or 3 patients at the Dental office were I work come in with Thrush do to having there tongue pierced (not recommended..lol). The best advise I can give you is that next time you get a bout of thrush...see your Dentist.Your Dentist is an expert when it comes to Oral bacteria and fungi.He/She will know more about it than your MD and how best to treat it so it does not come back.Dona
