Re: search into PCOS

Hi Leona, I would be interested in a study to investigate any potential relationships between PCOS and anxiety disorders because, from my (admittedly limited) reading I understand that there may be HPA disturbances in some women with PCOS and a number of us in this forum have posted messages regarding anxiety. I wonder if these may be related to abnormalities in adrenaline release as anxiety symptoms closely mirror physiological symptoms of adrenaline surges. About a year ago, I came off the pill in an attempt to become pregnant (I did not know I had PCOS) and this coincided with my life falling apart! For the first time in my life I had panic attacks, my hair fell out, my acne worsened, and I put on about 1 stone very rapidly, despite having been the same weight for about 10 years. I began to feel that my body was my worst enemy. Most clinical research that I have read has focussed exclusively on the physical, rather than psychological symptoms. I have a strong gut feeling that, at least for some sufferers, the anxiety is purely physical in origin, and NOT the result of poor body image caused by the syndrome as I can say that, for me, the anxiety cincerns me a great deal more than any of the physical symptoms. Does this ring true for anyone else? I discussed this with my gyn (hormonal imbalances causing the anxiety) and he was of the opinion that it was related.

Sorry, I think I started to waffle. p.s. Leona, if you don't mind sharing, where do you work as a medical researcher?
