Actually, PCO and PCOS are not the same, but sometimes people use them interchangeably, which can be confusing. Not all women with multiple cysts on their ovaries (PCO) have PCOS, and not all women with PCOS have cysts. It's really a misnomer, because it involves more than just cysts, more than just the ovaries, and, as Joanne said, varies greatly.

If you are insulin resistant, you probably have the syndrome (PCOS), but don't quote me on that. Take the self-screening quiz at: http://www.pcosupport.org
