Re: Avandia and low blood sugar????From: Munchichic (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 25 Sep 2001 18:34:15 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Terri, I've been in the same boat. I had to stop taking met after nearly 2 months because of the horrible side effects. I got a trip to the ER for that. I'm too, on Avandia now and have experienced the bad bouts of hypoglycemia as well. You don't have to take your Avandia with meals, but it does seem to help. I take it in the morning/afternoon with a meal and then at night before going to bed. However, at night, I always have a snack with it---a twinkie, oatmeal cream pie, something sugary to combat the drop in glucose. I don't wake up in the middle of the night anymore "shaking" even though I wasn't _physically_ shaking. So it must've been the drop of glucose that made my body "shake" and woke me up. That happened so many times without an explanation, until I finally started eating a snack with my last pill. I've heard that it's true that Avandia doesn't DIRECTLY cause a drop in blood sugar, but since it is working to make your insulin function more correctly, that is usally the end result. Try having a sweet snack in between meals or right before bed to help combat that. It should work. If not, there's something else going on and your Dr needs to be aware of it. Good luck!
