Hair loss questionFrom: KrisZ (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 24 Sep 2001 19:14:26 -0500 (CDT)
Hello, I am new to this forum and I think I might have PCOS because I have many sympotms of it. I have had my iron (although not my ferritin checked) and a thyroid screened and it came back normal. My only off readings were a high testosterone reading although I can't remember how high it was and my Free T4 which is part of the thyroid screening was a .53 which is a bit low. I started losing hair gradually about 4 years ago. I am going to try to get a referral to an endocrinologist this week. Should I wait until I get my results to try something to stop my hair loss? I have been reading that some people get their hair back once they start the medication and others that don't. I tried using Rogaine but found that it made my scalp very very flaky and a bit raw so I stopped using it after 2 weeks. Should I give the Rogaine another shot? Is there anything I can do to control the flakes? I find that when I used dandruff shampoo (head and shoulders) that I have more hair loss in the shower. I was using the 2% Rogaine by the way. I just don't know if I should wait until I talk to a specialist or if I should try to do something now. -Kris
