1st visit to endocrinologistFrom: Debra (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 30 Aug 2001 13:00:57 -0500 (CDT)
Well, yesterday I went in for my first visit and I came away very happy. The doctor was very nice and very thorough. I had to go in for tons of lab work this morning after I had fasted. She gave me prescriptions for Provera and Spironolactone. The Provera to start a period because I haven't had one since December last year amd the Spironolactone to treat the hair growth. In three weeks she is going to start me on the metformin. SHe wanted to wait for the lab tests to be back before starting the Metformin. She advised me to go on a low-carb diet. I told her I was goingt o be starting the atkins diet and she informed me that it is a little bit strict for her but it would be a very good one to start out with and then modify later on. My biggest problem was that my blood pressure was way way up. So she doubled my BP medicine and she is hoping that since the spironolactone is a diuretic it will help lower the blood pressure. She took it several times during the visit and it was consistently high at 148/116. I wasn't nervous either. So all in all I am very happy with how things went. She told me that the metformin will help with the weight problem, and also with the infertility. I am sooo hopeful that I can start losing some of this weight and begin to feel better. Thanks to all of you! Before I found this site, I had no idea that PCOS could even be treated! I thought it was just something I had to live with. Thanks to all of you and I will keep you posted!
