Re: MY LIFE HISTORY-WHATYA THINK?From: Renee (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 29 Aug 2001 07:42:49 -0700
You might have PCOS. Even if you don't, you need to find someone who will address your lack of ovulation. There could be health impacts later. If you don't shed your uterine lining once in a while, you have an increased risk of endometrial cancer. If it is PCOS, you may have insulin resistance and at very high risk of developing diabetes later. You said you wouldn't get other tests? Why not? Most of them are blood tests or ultrasounds, both of which are minor when it comes to time and discomfort. It would help a doctor to find out what exactly is happening, and how best to help you. A very large number of doctors know very little about PCOS and related conditions. I believe many people here will recommend you see a reproductive endocrinologist. An endocrinologist works with hormones, and a RE sub-specializes with the sex hormones, which are a key player in PCOS. Some gynecologists are very good also. It really depends on the doctor. Sometimes it's scary to go through a work up and get answers. You can be afraid to find out what's wrong. However, if you do, then you can deal with it. You might want children some day, and you can't have your own if you don't ovulate. Even if you don't, you probably want to avoid the complications that can arise from these hormonal conditions if they are untreated. Stick around the list to learn more. And, try to find a doctor who can help you. Good luck, Renee
