Newly diagnosed

I'm so glad I found this forum! I was just diagnosed on Thursday, and while I'm happy to finally have a reason for all my symptoms, and that it's not just because I'm ugly, unhealthy, or a hypochondriac, I'm having difficulty with the meds already, and it's kind of scary.

A little history: I'm 32, had irregular periods and trouble getting pregnant, had a stillborn in at 6 months in '92 (no diagnosis), another at 6 months also in '94 (still no diagnosis but possible Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome (APA) which I now test negative for - long story but one I still wonder about). I've gained alot of weight, specifically about 40 pounds in the last 3 years, irregular periods (only 5 since November), fatigue, leg and foot pain especially in morning or when sitting a long time, bald spot on the back of my head, male pattern body hair, facial hair, irritability (feels like constant PMS), breakouts, and severe sugar/starch cravings.

Lab stuff: My triglycerides were 349, total cholesterol was 209, HDL 35, LDL 309, fasting blood sugar 111, negative for Lupus, negative for APA, very high Testosterone levels but I don't remember the numbers.

There were 14 tests they did so I feel diagnosis is very thorough. He called me PreDiabetic as a result of the PCOS.

Treatment: Glucophage XR 500mg once a day, and Apri Tabs 28's 0.15mg/0.03mg.

The Glucophage I just started yesterday morning. Started on a Sat so I could see how I'd do. It has a reputation from what I hear. Sure enough, stomach cramps, diarhea, nausea, bloating, etc. I started the Apri also but I think any symptoms from that are being overriden by the Glucophage. I'm worried about going to work next week. I have a job with a bathroom near, but it's not like I can jump up out of meetings without causing a spectacle. I have to give a major presentation on Tues that I can't push. I'm wondering if over the counter meds help like Immodium AD or anything else?

Does this go away? It's not pleasant to say the least.

One other thing I forgot to ask the doc... The word cystic in this, does that mean I have had, do have, or will have cysts on my ovaries? Will they turn cancerous if undetected? I think if the answer is that they're common, then I wonder why he didn't reccommend me getting that looked at also. I don't go back for 10 weeks.

Also, has anyone with this had a history of repeated pregnancy loss in late stages? I still feel like I'm left with a "well, maybe it was the APA but we'll never know since you don't have it now". He said he doesn't feel the PCOS contributed, but was just wondering if anyone else had the same experiences. Emotionally, it would be nice to have a reason.

I'm sure I'll learn alot about all this in the next few weeks. I'm happy to have this as a resource, and appreciate all the people sharing their experiences and advice. It's nice not to feel so alone with something you can't share with just anyone you know.
