How reliable is the "calories burned" counter on an exercise bike (or a treadmill, or...)? My doctor sneered when I said that I was burning 500 calories a day on the treadmill -- he claims that an hour of walking at 3.7 miles/hour (with an incline of 7) is only worth about 300 calories, max. Is this true? Oh please say it ain't so!
