Hi Kathleen, I am based in Essex, and I know exactly how you feel about our gps being dismissive. I finally found a doctor about three years ago who is ok, but he admits he knows little if anything about it, but has taken a bit of time to learn, so he can help me. He is better about the fertility side of things - but that is a whole long different story! Anyway, I insisted that I was referred privately, so he made me find my own doctor. At the time I was not impressed, but, now I am glad that I did. My recommendation is if you have private medical insurance great - but if not you may be able to afford to go for a consultation anyway - phone Hammersmith Hospital, speak to a secretary about PCOS. She/he will then give you a list of names and telephone numbers of people to go and see. (There is a policy on the board of not naming names - hope I have not broken any rules here.) I went to see this guy - and told him about what I knew, and he filled in the gaps! I was lucky - he presribed met, I am having af about every other month. (better than every other year!) I did not have any side effects at first, but have had a little bit now I am on a higher dose, but that is my own fault for not taking them with food - this hot weather has lost my appetite. Anyway - if you want any more info, please feel free to email me privately. Good luck Cathy
