Re: Sleep apnea, asthma and overwight. my humble opinionFrom: AmandaRee (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 2 Aug 2001 13:52:21 -0500 (CDT)
I would like to just take a second and comment on the asthma and weight issue. From reading the last few days worth of postings it *seems* like everyone who has said that they have asthma has specified that is "Exertional" or "Excerise Induced" -- myself included. What I was told by the doctor who Dx me with this kind of asthma is that it is absolutley related to being overweight. That your lungs have to work harder to breathe when they have extra weight on them durring physical activity. That is why it is called Excersize Induced. The other kind of asthma is usually hereditary and related to allergies more than excersize and and can be found in people who are slim as well as overweight. I feel like we get a double wammy with this thing--pcos causes certain symptoms and then those symptoms cause other symptoms, like a chain reaction. But I agree with Renee and Dona, we do need to be very careful when trying to relate or link these things together. Well that's my humble opinion. : )
